February 9, 2017: Giant Steps is excited to announce the launch of this year’s fundraising efforts for the school’s annual charity auction. This year’s theme is “Giant Steps Derby: Race to the Future.” The Kentucky Derby-themed auction will be held Friday, April 21st at Bobak’s Signature Room in Woodridge, IL. Tickets will be available for purchase through our website, www.mygiantsteps.org/auction2017, beginning February
The annual charity auction serves as a pillar fundraising event for Giant Steps, generating much-needed proceeds which directly support the school’s mission of providing exceptional therapeutic services for individuals with autism and their families. For over two decades, Giant Steps has relied on the generosity of the communities it serves to help defray operational costs through the charity auction’s contributions.
“We have been amazed at the outpouring of support that we have received from the community over the past 20 years,” said Giant Steps Executive Director Dr. Sylvia Smith. “The resources generated from events like our auction directly impact our ability to serve our students and the community, so we are incredibly grateful for all of the support.”
To go along with the Kentucky Derby theme, one of the headlining auction items this year will be a
Kentucky Derby experience, including tickets on ‘millionaire’s row’ and premium hotel accommodations.
“This year’s Derby theme is going to be a lot of fun and we’re encouraging all who will be attending the auction to dress to the nines in their best derby attire,” Smith noted.
Lisa Cummings Ewers, Giant Steps development manager, is on the frontlines of the fundraising initiative.
“We’ve already had some incredibly generous local business owners sign on as sponsors for this amazing event; however, we still have a large need for sponsorships,” said Ewers. “We are also reaching out to businesses and organizations in the community for items they may wish to donate to our silent auction. We will have four primary fundraising opportunities – the mini live auction, silent auction, live auction and ‘Fund the Need’ – so we still have a need for additional donations.”
