The Autism Training Center
The Autism Training Center (ATC) offers consultation services to schools, organizations, early intervention centers, respite providers, and others who work with individuals with autism spectrum disorders. We address areas such as language, speech and communication, education, occupational therapy, recreation and leisure skills, social skills and issues, behavior strategies, sensory integration strategies, and more:
- First Responders Training: Giant Steps is experienced in the development of autism curriculum, training tools and related tactics for first responders such as paramedics, fire rescue, police, and hospital staff responding to an emergency. We have created a range of autism training packages and materials that are designed specifically for law enforcement and first response agencies.
- Professional Seminars: Giant Steps hosts a variety of public seminars addressing community issues or requested topics to provide autism specific information.
- Home and School Consultation: ATC offers consultation services for families in their homes to support and promote language, speech and communication acquisition, academic education, self-help skills, behavior strategies, toilet training, and supports in other areas and issues that families may encounter while raising a child with ASD.
The ATC also plays a key role in autism policy by serving as an advocate regarding laws and policies affecting those with ASD and by educating and providing resources about ASD to elected officials. In 2010, Giant Steps partnered with the Autism Society of Illinois to hold the First Annual Autism Awareness in Springfield.
